We are excited to be bringing Chico a 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training accredited by Yoga Alliance. Coursework commences on February 8th, 2019 and finalizes August 11th, 2019, meeting every other weekend for a total of 14 training weekends. Yoga and meditation are practiced every training weekend and reputable, local teachers are featured throughout the course. Each trainee has ample support as they develop their teaching skills and yoga sequences, and plenty of opportunity to teach to peers, and even to the public at the Yoga Center of Chico, which is where all the coursework will be held.

Course Topics & Content

Our 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training curriculum follows the guidelines and requirements set forth by Yoga Alliance. The foundation of our course is Vinyasa Yoga and trainees will gain ample knowledge of a variety of postures as well as learn how to sequence and teach Vinyasa, Hatha Flow, and/or Gentle Yoga.

A total of 200 hours will be accumulated by the trainee, where 185 hours are earned in the classroom with lead trainers, experienced yoga teachers, and a variety of other trainers with diverse educational backgrounds and yoga experience. The remaining 15 hours of our 200 hour course will be obtained outside of the classroom by the trainee through various homework assignments and a 60 minute public yoga class.


Included in our 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training:

  • Yoga and meditation led each training weekend with emphasis on technique and practice

  • Over 130 postures explored in depth, including their variations, modifications, benefits and contraindications

  • Extensive study of anatomy, alignment maps, and how to move bodies in space safely

  • Study of Sanskrit terminology and Sanskrit posture names

  • Read and analyze key components from Patanjali's Yoga Sutras; Examine and discuss yoga philosophy

  • Emphasis on Vinyasa yoga with an overview of Hatha yoga and Gentle yoga

  • Learn how to assess your students to create customized classes appropriate for their level

  • Review and discuss ethics as they apply to a yoga teacher as well as the business aspects of teaching yoga


About the Trainers

Amanda Correa

Founder of Spira Yoga & Wellness (RYS), Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher, Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher

Over the last ten years, Amanda has attended multiple yoga training courses, studying Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Kundalini, Restorative and Yoga Nidra, while accumulating more than 4,000 hours of teaching experience at yoga studios in Texas and California. In 2014, she founded Spira Yoga & Wellness, a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School, and to date has graduated five successful 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training courses. As a teacher trainer, Amanda has a natural ability to articulate and relate material to the point of understanding and embodiment. She is focused on assisting others in finding their individual voice and unique talents as a yoga teacher.

Rex Stromness

Co-founder of Yoga Center of Chico, Ashtanga-Based Vinyasa Yoga & Meditation Teacher

Rex began practicing yoga in the 1970's with his first introduction while attending CSU Sonoma. He has studied and practiced a variety of different styles including Sivananda, Tri-Yoga, Iyengar and Integral Yoga but he considers Ashtanga to be his main influence. Rex has been teaching yoga for the last 25 years and founded the Yoga Center of Chico with Tom Hess in 2013. He teaches yoga and mindfulness to busy students at CSU Chico, performs Deep Tissue Massage, and leads retreats around the world.


Additional Trainers

In addition to the two lead trainers, we will also be featuring local yoga teachers and professionals throughout the course, including Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist Jennifer Andrews, Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers Tom Hess and John Lee, and more.


Cost, Requirements & Deadlines

Course tuition is $2,500. A $500 non-refundable deposit is due at course enrollment and is the only way to reserve a trainee’s place in the training. Please note the following deadlines:

Deposit:  $500 Non-Refundable Deposit DUE upon enrollment

Early Bird $250 Tuition Discount:  On December 15th, 2018, the remaining $1,750 is DUE, otherwise:

Regular Tuition:  February 8th, 2019, the remaining $2,000 is DUE

Application & Enrollment

To apply for our Yoga Teacher Training, either complete an online or paper application. Paper applications can either be submitted in person at the Yoga Center of Chico, placing the application in a sealed envelope with Rex Stromness written across it, or via email by scanning and emailing the completed application to

Please allow a couple of business days to receive a response regarding your application. One you’ve been contacted, you will be given an information packet with details about the course and enrollment paperwork. When you’re ready to enroll in the course, you will need to set an enrollment appointment with Rex to submit your enrollment paperwork and make your $500 non-refundable deposit. Your place in the training will not be reserved until enrollment paperwork and deposit are submitted and received.
