Tom has been a certified Iyengar yoga teacher since 1995. He loves the way Iyengar yoga can speak to the spirit of the student through the body. Tom is always trying the find the perfect balance where he leads the student towards yoga and then allows the student find it themselves. Yoga has provided a path of purpose for Tom and he will always be grateful for that blessing.
Ashtanga-based Vinyasa Yoga
Rex began practicing yoga in the 1970's with his first introduction while attending CSU Sonoma. He has studied and practiced a variety of different styles including Sivananda, Tri-Yoga, Iyengar and Integral Yoga but he considers Ashtanga to be his main influence.
Rex has been teaching yoga for the last 25 years and founded the Yoga Center of Chico in 2013 with Tom Hess. He also teaches yoga and mindfulness at CSU Chico, practices Deep Tissue Massage, and leads retreats around the world.

Lisa is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) at the 200-hour level through Northern California Yoga Institute. Lisa's teaching style is deeply rooted in alignment based principles blending classical yoga and meditation practices with contemporary exercise science and fitness methods to establish optimal health, wellness, fitness and spiritual awareness. Her classes are a playful mix of dynamic vinyasa flow integrating alignment, core work, breathing techniques as well as basic entry level poses. She encourages students to find the balance between ease and effort, strength and surrender in each sequence.
Cheri Neal is an experienced registered yoga instructor. Along with holding certifications in both Prenatal Yoga and Thai Yoga Massage, she is also a Licensed Massage Therapist. She has dedicated her life to healing through yoga, meditation, therapeutic massage, and the use of medicinal plants. It is her passion to remind us of our innate ability to heal, and also empower and inspire us to take our physical, mental and emotional healing into our own hands.
Vinyasa flow yoga
After experiencing the benefits of aligning body mind and spirit for herself, Lara is now sharing yoga with everyone. She is certified through Yoga Alliance at the E-RYT 200 level and Advanced Studies Training graduate, having learned the styles of Integrative Dynamic Yoga, Anusara, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, and Iyengar. Her classes vary by level and style, with focus on breath, alignment, grounding and centering, meditation, mindfulness, vinyasa flow, strengthening poses, and restorative postures.
Kristy has been certified to teach yoga since November 2014. Her foundation training came from Spira Yoga and Wellness in Oroville , CA and her advanced studies have come from Wisdom Flow Yoga in Maui. She has experience teaching restorative chair, gentle, and vinyasa classes. With roots in social work, she also has experience offering classes to populations that may have limited access to yoga, such as homeless youth.
She is passionate about utilizing the entire yoga discipline of breath-work, asana, spiritual principles, and meditation in organizations that promote social justice. Her voice and energy are very calming. As she offers clear, detailed instruction, her love of yoga comes through in every class.
Qi Gong/Chi Kung & Tai Ji Quan/Tai Chi Chuan
Higgy Lerner has been a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture since 1983. He has studied and practiced Qi Gong and Tai Ji since 1975 with a number of important teachers, including Fong Ha, Cai Sang Fang, Han Xingyuan, Jan Diepersloot, and Sam Tam. Lerner's goals in teaching are increased health and vitality, while helping people evolve from being reactors to responders while having fun doing so!
Michele Miller is the voice on the answering machine and working hands that keep the Yoga Center of Chico thriving.
Wife of co-owner Rex Stromness, Michele is a water-loving photographer and jewelry maker, whose designs can be found in sweet local shops, as well as at her booth at the Chico Saturday Farmer's Market.
