Energizing Your Spine

In this series of classes, we will examine the functional anatomy of the spine and the forces we exert upon it. These include gravity, muscle imbalances, ergonomics and everyday activities.

We will learn how we can counter these forces using traction and energetic extension in our yoga poses with the help of wall ropes, props and partners to lengthen, open, support and strengthen our spines.

There will be advice and encouragement to maintain a home practice throughout the 3-week period and beyond. Some yoga experience and regular attendance at a yoga class is highly recommended.

Amanda began her yoga practice in 1998 in the Iyengar tradition. She is a graduate of the Berkeley Yoga Room 500 hour teacher certification program and continues to study with many of the Bay Area’s senior teachers.
For the last 12 years she has taught classes and workshops at all levels in the Bay Area and has worked with many individuals with movement and  mobility issues.
As a former physiotherapist she is able to guide students through their practice, preparing for poses using mobilizing, strengthening and sequencing, allowing them to find ease and lightness in every pose.
In her teaching she encourages her students to apply their experiences on the mat to their everyday movement and activity for improved posture and longer lasting health benefits.
