B.K.S. Iyengar

Pattabhi Jois

Yoga is many things. First and foremost it is a set of practices that unify body, mind and spirit. Practice of the asanas (physical postures) is a means of cultivating a body that is strong, flexible, balanced and energetic. The practice of pranayama cultivates deep, proper breathing. Meditation (dhyana) is a means of cultivating a mind that is free, present, awakened and focused. A regular yoga practice will enhance one's life in many ways.

Yoga is an ancient tradition that arose in India. It was first introduced to the West in the early 1900's and in the last 25 years has grown exponentially.

Iyengar - Classical yoga postures done with an emphasis on alignment. We often use props to adjust the student to the posture.

Restorative - A relaxation based practice staying in postures while using multiple props for support.

Vinyasa - Sequenced postures (asana) aligned with breath.

Ashtanga - Poses executed in swift succession, combined with deep, controlled breathing.

Kundalini Yoga - focuses on meditation, pranayama, chanting mantra and asana.

Hatha Yoga - posture (asana), conscious breathing (pranayama), and various body “seals” (mudra) or muscular contractions.
